Located on the historical centre of the lovely Horta town, on the amazing Faial Island, known as the Blue Island of the Azores Archipelago, this monument is what is left nowadays of the ancient town’s Mother Church.
The Clock Tower was not part of the Mother Church’s original set, which construction would have began in 1500, nevertheless was added to the set in the beginning of the 18th century.
The Church, that throughout the years suffered many natural calamities, fires and other destructions, was demolished in 1825, and by then the Church of the Jesuits College was made Mother Church.
