Santa Iria Viewpoint

Located nearby the Porto Formoso small village, on the Ribeira Grande environs, the Santa Iria Viewpoint reflects the greenish beauty of the amazing São Miguel Island, on the Azores Archipelago, surrounded by the vast blue Atlantic Ocean.

From this viewpoint one can admire the amazing beauty of the northern coast of this wonderful island, that has a very own ambiance, also marked by the many tea cultivation.
It is said that it was in these slopes that on the 3rd August 1831 happened the Ladeira da Velha Battle, when the troops of D. Pedro the 4th defeated the troops of his brother, D. Miguel, opening the way to the Évora Monte Concession that ended the Portuguese Civil War of 1832 / 34.
