Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Museum

Situated in the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Park, the Calouste Gulbenkia Museum was founded in 1969 in order to receive the magnanimous art collection of Calouste Gulbenkian.

The Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation is a Portuguese private institution founded in 1956 that promotes a wide range of cultural activities and also in the scientific research and studies, with delegations in Portugal and abroad.

The Museum houses an important collection of around 6 thousand pieces of ancient and modern art, divided in defined circuits in what concerns to chronology and geography. The highlights are the nucleus of Egyptian Art, Greek-Roman, Mesopotamia, Eastern Islam, Armenia, Far East and also the nucleus of Sculpture, Painting, Book, Decorative Arts, dedicated to the fantastic works of art signed by René Lalique.

The building, projected by Alberto Pessoa, Pedro Cid and Ruy Athouguia is part of the architectonic set that was built in the 1960’s as a cultural, beautiful and natural oasis in the heart of Lisboa.
The Museum presents its great permanent exhibition, but also its temporary exhibitions on the gallery or even outside the museum itinerary, as well as a cafeteria and a shop. The Museum is also famous for its cultural activities and the quality pedagogical services.
