Towering above the lovely Penacova village, the set of Windmills of Gavinhos is a special place, even though it is partially abandoned.

From here the panorama of the surrounding area is amazing, accompanied by the 14 windmills and an image of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, blessing the winds, the village and the windmill work.

Three of these Windmills still have enough conditions for functioning, yet only one works nowadays, by the hand of the Gavinhos’s small village only miller, triturating the maize, the wheat and the rye that for many years provided the populations.

It is worth visiting the Windmill that is still working nowadays and observe the hard work of the miller, as well as the dynamic of this wise structure, preserving this knowledge and heritage for future times.
