Mazouco Rupestrian Engravings
The Mazouco rupestrian engravings, located by the amazing Douro river, and inserted into a wonderful landscape, are one of the most important Upper Palaeolithic period in Portugal, and were the first open air Palaeolithic rupestrian art example identified in Europe.
The engravings, constituted by four engravings over a schist wall, in which only one of them is complete, were presented to the scientific world in 1981.
The most distinct and famous one is the image of a horse. With a length of 62 cm, this is one of the most beautiful open air rupestrian art images in the whole world.
