Guilherme Moniz Cauldron

Located in the heart of the amazing Terceira Island, Azores Archipelago, the Guilherme Moniz Cauldron is the largest in the entire Archipelago.

This crater, from the Morião volcano, nowadays extinct, has an opening of 15km diameter, and houses the widest water reservoir in the Island as the lagoon that existed here was covered, thousands of years ago, by the lava flows that came from the Algar do Carvão eruptions.

The Guilherme Moniz Cauldron is covered with wide extensions of vegetation that allow a wonderful panorama, housing an important native flora, typical of this kind of natural occurrences.
